Kinfolk and Gentlewoman

Kinfolk is a growing community of artists with a shared interest in small gatherings. We recognize that there is something about a table shared by friends, not just a wedding or once-a-year holiday extravaganza, that anchors our relationships and energizes us. We have come together to create Kinfolk as our collaborative way of advocating the natural approach to entertaining that we love.
Every element of Kinfolk—the features, photography, and general aesthetics—are consistent with the way we feel entertaining should be: simple, uncomplicated, and less contrived. Kinfolk is the marriage of our appreciation for art and design and our love for spending time with family and friends.
This third volume of Kinfolk explores how we all might benefit from incorporating more of the things we love into our daily routines instead of saving them for the weekend or our next vacation. The essays and personal stories focus on welcoming food, community, and simplicity into our lives as regularly as possible.

Issue five of The Gentlewoman boasts an array of brilliant and inventive women – daring iconoclasts who have never shied away from challenges, provocation or controversy. Actress Tilda Swinton, singer Sinéad O’Connor, Internet pioneer Martha Lane Fox, tennis star Maria Sharapova and the legendary supermodel turned activist, Christy Turlington are among the courageous women interviewed about their remarkable lives and fascinating careers. Chic fashions abound in this fifth edition, offering powerful, glamorous and fun suggestions for the summer months ahead.

Make Smith is located in Santa Barbara, CA and is owned & operated by Steven Soria, a native Santa Barbarian & 3rd generation leather craftsman. Inspired by Steven’s experience and education in the fine-arts, Make Smith combines his families’ artisan tradition with focus on handmade one of a kind leather production.

the list collective

A couple months ago, Elaine Brooks, founder of the List Collective paid a visit to the shop. Luckily I was there to meet her, but a 5-year old was waiting and needed to get back to L.A. so she was out of here quick. Even in her brief visit, she spotted some of our most popular earrings…the Kathleen Whitaker dot and dashes plus the Better Late Than Never herkimer studs. Today, Elaine mentioned her visit to the shop and these earrings in her January Mood Board post. Thank you Elaine! I really appreciate this mention in your lovely blog and I hope we can have a longer visit sometime in the near future! I also want to thank Natalie James of Fashion Intel for introducing Elaine to the Supply Room in her mention of the shop when interviewed by Elaine about her recent discoveries. Both of their blogs are great guides for shops, food, cool things to seek out and overall inspiration.
